2023 in Retrospect: Making Hackers Cry
Our journey through 2023 was nothing short of remarkable. We classified hundreds of millions of files each month, culminating in an astounding total of 5 billion unique files classified over the year. That’s a sustained average of 158 unique files per second over the course of the year. Not a single one using our customer’s resources. This massive scale of operation is only possible due to our robust and efficient platform, designed to tackle the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.
By the close of 2023, we had processed more than 1.3 trillion files on disk. This would not have been possible without our wonderful partners. They trust us to secure their systems without burdening them. We are dedicated to doing just that. Ensuring comprehensive coverage and protection for every system. We continued to expand the range of systems our agent is able to operate in, pushing the boundaries of resource starvation to bring full protection to even the tiniest containers.
Our most impactful accomplishment last year was the remediation of around a billion pieces of malware. There were periods where our systems were sustaining a rate of remediation of over 5 million pieces of malware per hour. That’s a peak processing of over 1400 pieces of malware per second with a year-long sustained rate of 32 pieces of malware per second. This responsiveness and efficiency are a testament to our advanced algorithms and dedicated team, who work tirelessly to counteract malicious campaigns.
Looking Ahead: Our Vision for 2024
Our vision for this year is shaped by four key objectives
Innovation in Detection and Remediation
The arms race with hackers will always exist and generative AI has put innovation in malware at the fingertips of anyone interested. Malware will continue to get more sophisticated, pernicious, and harder to detect. And we will meet the challenge. We will be releasing a powerful upgrade to our reconnaissance and remediation capabilities in January. Specifically designed to address a surge in file-less malware, we are excited to leverage and extend its flexibility throughout the year. To support that our cloud classification platform has and will continue to extend beyond “normal” malware. And, of course, there’s AI in the mix. We’ve got some exciting innovations behind the scenes but that’s for another day.
Expanding Our Global Footprint
With our new WHMCS plugin we will be able to meet small and medium sized hosting providers where they are. The ease of installation and management that WHMCS enables is impressive. We have tapped into that ecosystem to bring malware protection to everyone. Even more, to enable upsell of security services. Domain owners shouldn’t need to understand cyber security to run their businesses but it only makes sense for them to share in the cost of protecting them.
Empowering Our Partners
We are committed to empowering our clients through education and awareness initiatives. The sheer quantity of cyber security news available today makes it basically noise to anyone but cyber security professionals. That is a huge problem because some of it is very important for everyone who owns or operates a system. There were several times in 2023 that we reached out with what we felt was critical cyber security information. The efforts were universally appreciated. We intend to work with our partners to do that and more in 2024.
